It looks line the Chinese computer chip industry is moving forward and we will soon be seeing complete Chinese made computers, laptops and other such devices come our way soon. Why?
Well China realizes that heavy industries are big polluters and they will want less of that and more high-tech and higher profit clean industries and as they build up their infrastructure they will be able to produce more for much less than we can in the United States.
Plus we know that most of the computer components now are not made in the United States anyway. Most of the stuff is made over seas, even if it is made in US Corporation Factories located in those other countries.
Many of the component of the computer that you are working on right now are made in places like Singapore, Malaysia, India and China already and soon the entire units will be made in places like China, with Chinese names on them rather than HP, Dell, Toshiba or Apple.
The Chinese Computer Industry is a fast mover and they are aggressively going after the market and they have foreign investment and cash flow to ramp up to meet World Wide consumer demand, which is also growing as the nations of the world also moves forward to complete the bridge over the digital divide. Consider all this in 2006.

If you know so much about china zodiac. Can you answer my question?
What is the dominant population china zodiac in the world? Pig? Monkey? How many are those population?
There are 1.4 billion people in China. How many in each sign? It's hard to say - that kind of information isn't compiled easily, though, you could look at birth rates over the years...:)

China Ancient Coin

In my country Guyana this time of the year is associated with kite making and kite flying. It is so traditional in my country that when I first lived away from it I was taken aback that Easter came and there were no kites.
Recently I tried to find out the origins of this tradition. Asking older people only brought vague responses about it being our way of celebrating the resurrection of Christ. When I began researching the history of kites I found out that in both China and India there were long kite traditions. Something clicked. Maybe the Chinese or Indians brought it to Guyana.
As usual there are different claims about where kites originated. In some accounts it is China. Other stories say it began with societies in the South Pacific. The Balinese have a beautiful story on the origin of kites.
Kite flying symbolizes man's dream of flying. One of the most powerful Greek myths is that of Icarus who flew with wings but went too near the sun which melted the wax holding his wings together. Kites even have their own museums and festivals. The Kite Museum of Ahmedabad in India gives you a glimpse of the history of man's joy of flying kites.
Kite flying has not only been a recreation it has played important roles in war and science. There is the story of Hsiang Yü who flew a kite at night to frighten the army of Liu Pang founder of the Han dynasty in China. This is the ancient equivalent of our flying black hawk helicopters to scare the Taliban.
There are accounts from 100 BC to 500 AD of generals using kites to send signals, messages and even weapons. They were used for observation and to measure the distance of enemy camps. A modern version of this is pilotless drones doing similar duties.
Many of us have read about Ben Franklin's kite experiment in 1752.He sent up a kite in a storm to prove that lightning was of the same electric matter as the one that generated electricity. He attached a projecting metal wire to his kite. This drew lightning when an electrified cloud passed over his kite.
Kites played an important role in the development of aircraft. A major milestone in kite flying was in 1870 when an Australian inventor Lawrence Hargrave created box-kites whose stability was the inspiration for power driven aeroplanes. Alexander Graham Bell,Samuel Cody and the Wright brothers experimented with very large man-carrying kites and biplane gliders.
From my research the most popular Kite flying countries are China, Japan, India, and Thailand. I was intrigued to read about 'kite fights'. This is something I remember from my childhood. Kite fighters try to cut opponent's kites down using various methods. The technique used in Afghanistan ( Gudiparan Baz. ) where the string of the tails of the kites are passed through a mixture of ground glass powder and glue to make them capable of cutting either the tails or the string controlling the kite is very familiar to me. Perhaps my Corentyne cousins had some Afghan ancestry!
Some interesting traditional International Kite Flying festivals I found are in Greece, India and Pakistan. Greeks fly kites on the first Monday of Lent. This is known as Clean Monday. Millions fly kites all over northern India during the Indian festival of Makar Sankranti, a spring festival celebrated every January 14 and a public holiday in Gujarat. In neighboring Pakistan, kite flying is done in Basant -their spring festival.
Today we have competitions for multi-line kite flying, precision flying and for the artistic interpretation of music. The Joy of Kite Flying continues.

Dragons Through History
The Dragon has played an important part in myths and religions since pre-historic times. The history of dragons goes back at least six thousand years, and there are dragon tales and legends from every continent except Antarctica. In almost every culture, and all throughout history, there are stories of these mythical and magical creatures called dragons. Different people have various theories of why so many cultures developed such a long lasting belief in dragons; however, none can actually be proven.
Many believe that dragons were what we now call dinausaurs. It may be that dragon stories partly grew out of people finding dinosaur bones. The thought is that when dragon bones were dug up later, they were given the new classification of dinosaur. Many evolutionists believe that dinosaurs became extinct millions of years before man walked the planet, while others claims dispute this. It is said that dinosaur fossils, which have been discovered along with human footprints and remains, add proof to the ancient people's history of dragons. Others feel that people forgot that dragons were ever real, and quickly faded into mythology.
In almost every culture and all throughout history there are stories of these magical creatures called dragons. Later, in Europe these dragons in art forms were thought to be real life animals rather than symbols of evil.
Throughout many cultures, dragons may have appeared different, but they have always retained the same basic core elements. When most people think of dragons they generally think of fire breathing monsters, but originally dragons were usually connected with water. To the ancient Chinese, dragons were not creatures of fire, as so many would think, but rather creatures of water. The dragon of the Chinese resided in rivers, lakes, pools and rose in great clouds of mist to promote rainfall. In earlier Mideast stories, the dragons are most often associated with water and wisdom. Historians use this conection with water to distinguish dragons from other mythical animals.
While the east feels that the dragon is a divine, mythical creature that brings good fortune, prosperity and bounty, western dragons are viewed differently. They are connected to the element fire, and they fling their colossal tails about, and viciously create destruction. The contrary views of the east and the west indicate opposing views where humans viewed dragons as a symbols of wisdom and peace, or symbols of chaos and evil. Neither would disagree that dragons were viewed as powerful creatures. This, along with the wide variance in the physical description of dragons, contributes to confusion in the definition of a dragon.
The humans revered the dragons, some clans even calling them gods. Hence, dragons were held in high regard, and their images kept and worn, to win their approval. Originally, it was believed that dragons were the ones who talked directory to the Gods. It was also thought at this time that earthquakes were caused by battles between dragons and gods. In history, many different cultures began to adopt the idea of gods fighting with dragons to restore order.
The dragon may be ancient, but it remains as influential today as it did four thousand years ago. Today, the popularity of fantasy, and such role-playing games as Dungeons and Dragons, means that dragon figurines are a hot commodity.

How much would an unopened copy of "Spyro - Year of the Dragon" for the Playstation 1 be worth?
Hi. I have 2 copies of the game "Spyro - Year of the Dragon" for the Playstation 1, or PSX if you want. I'm just wondering about how much would this be worth? Any replies would be cool.
maybe $10 ?
some games can be worth a lot but it depends on the games rarity or popularity or both
spyro is a popular series but a million copies were made and are still around , you can even download it from the playstation store still for $6 so it's not hard to find a copy and it isn't an important collectible game that changed how games were made or played like final fantasy 7 or the metal gear solid gold edition which can be worth up to $100 in unopened sealed condition

Lunar Year
Lunar Year

Lunar Eclipse
The Moon will turn an eerie shade of red for people in the western hemisphere late Wednesday and early Thursday as we experience the first lunar eclipse since August 28, 2007. In a lunar eclipse, the Sun, Earth and Moon are directly aligned and the Moon swings into the cone of shadow cast by the Earth. But the Moon does not become invisible, as there is still residual light that is deflected towards it by our atmosphere. Most of this refracted light is in the red part of the spectrum and as a result the Moon, seen from Earth, turns a coppery, orange or even brownish hue.
One can even use such knowledge to save their bacon. Can you say Christopher Columbus?
Lunar eclipses have long been associated with superstitions and signs of ill omen, especially in battle.
The defeat of the Persian king Darius III by Alexander the Great in the Battle of Gaugamela in 331 BC was foretold by soothsayers when the Moon turned blood-red a few days earlier. And an eclipse is credited with saving the life of Christopher Columbus and his crew in 1504.
This is not just some wise tale!
Stranded on the coast of Jamaica, the explorers were running out of food and faced with increasingly hostile local inhabitants who were refusing to provide them with any more supplies. Columbus, looking at an astronomical almanac, realised that a total eclipse of the Moon would occur on February 29, 1504.
He called the native leaders and warned them if they did not cooperate, he would make the Moon disappear from the sky the following night. The warning came true, prompting the terrified people to beg Columbus to restore the Moon, which he did, in return for as much food as his men needed. He and the crew were rescued on June 29, 1504.
Some things are predictable and known. Other things like Planet X are postulates and suspected. On the known siade of things, the Moon will be in total eclipse from 0301 GMT to 0351 GMT. This will be visible east of the Rocky Mountains in North America, as well as in all of Central and South America, West Africa and Western Europe.
It will be in partial eclipse from 0143 GMT to 0301 GMT, visible west of the Rockies and from the eastern Pacific, and from 0351 GMT to 0509 GMT, visible across the rest of Africa and Europe and much of South and West Asia.
The next lunar eclipse won't take place until December 21 2010. That's exactly two years before God only knows what will take place on December 21, 2012. And then there's February 14, 2013 or about 45 days after the most talked about date of the future. Planet X is projected to be 2.85AU from the sun with the earth directly between the brown dwarf and our sun. And talk about coronal mass ejections (CME) and sun spots? You've not seen anything like this fireworks display.
Try to make a movie out of this doomsday scenario! Art cannot imitate life to such an extent. But, while you can, and hopefully the weather will allow such a view, enjoy the quiet of mother nature.

How do you say Happy Lunar New Year in Tagalog?
I am sending greetings off to all my Asian friends. I know the Cantonese and Mandarin translations but I do not have the correct translation for Happy Lunar New Year in Tagalog. Thanks in advance.
If you're talking about the chinese lunar new year, filipinos simply say "kung hei fat choi".all filipinos know that. but if you prefer the tagalog translation, its
"manigong bagong taon ng mga Intsik"
"maligayang bagong taon ng mga intsik".
(happy chinese new year)
"
in those translations, "lunar" was eliminated and replaced with chinese instead. but if you prefer the strict tagalog, which is never used, its
"Maligayang bagong taon ng buwan"

Internship Opportunities and Internship Programs in China
With a country of over 5000 years of ancient history, China had no modern economy until Deng Xiaoping served as the leader for the People’s Republic of China. Deng Xiaoping opened China to the global market, by liberalising China to foreign investments in the 1980’s. China is now the fastest growing economy of the world, with many new foreign companies coming in every year. Since multinational companies nowadays are expanding their markets to China, as a result they are looking for employees who can speak Chinese, or had work experience in China.
Learning Mandarin in China, understanding the culture, socializing with the local Chinese is not enough for one to know how to do business in China. For those looking for China work experience, and to get your foot in the door, it is best to apply for an internship in China. Is the culture lost in China`s cultural revolution irretrievable, or could it be brought back t`t PRC somehow?
Is there a point in trying to bring back ancient Chinese customs in this way?
The government of the People's Republic of China seems to have done a more thorough job modifying cultures than the Europeans did on the Indigenous peoples of North America.
The government still controls all anthropology and archaeological studies within the borders and takes a dim view of anything not in their current plans. If it is forbidden to even record the cultural past what hope is there of reviving it?
When the government allows citizens to be shot on sight for infringing upon minor laws, how would one hope to record forbidden data? But who is to say what the future may bring.
