Grade of the coin is what tells us about the quality of a coin. That is, how worn out a coin is or how good a condition is the coin in. Grading has nothing to do with the rarity or antiquity of a coin. Grading is essentially an art, which means that there is no standard or precise demarcation between the different grades, just a general guideline. Grading is done on an intuitive, judgmental basis, and grading done by two individuals may well differ. There is not even a standard accepted set of grades, but again some loosely defined grades with loose ends open for interpretation. I am putting up a list of grades, starting from the poorest, which in my opinion are the basic grades and are used in the terminology 90% of the time:
1)B ASAL STATE: This type of coin is completely worn out and is barely recognizable to be a coin. No date, no features,no nothing can be seen. This is also rarely found and its value is the lowest.
2) POOR(PO): A little of the features are visible but again, very poor quality.
3) FAIR: With fair coins, you can see enough of the design and inscriptions to determine the coin's type - The coin above is an Edward VII florin. Depending upon the type of wear, the date may or may not be visible. The term "Fair" is sometimes also used to describe coins which are less worn than the coin above, but exhibit serious faults. Other examples of damaged coins include those that are bent, severely discoloured, rusty etc.
4) ABOUT GOOD/ALMOST GOOD(AG): Outlined design. Parts of date and legend worn smooth. This is a used up coin. You should be able to make out the date (possibly with some effort). Often, only parts of the last two digits will be visible.
5) GOOD(G): Outlined design. Parts of date and legend worn smooth. A good coin is heavily worn and shows little or no detail, but its design and legend are visible though faint in spots, and its date is legible.
6) VERY GOOD(VG): The design and legends of VG coins display little or none of the fuzziness of Good coins, yet the coins still fail to exhibit much detail.
7) FINE(F): Fine coins show some detail, and the main elements of their design appear clear and bold. Moderate to heavy even wear.
VERY FINE(VF): On Very Fine coins, all major features are sharp, but evidence of wear is apparent on the higher surfaces of the coin, and some fine detail will be worn or absent.
EXTREMELY FINE(EF/XF): Very light wear on only the highest points.Extremely Fine coins show evidence of handling on only their highest points. If you examine the above coin closely, you will find that some strands of hair appear flat in areas. EF coins that have suffered from little exposure to the elements and managed to retain most of their original mint lustre are often referred to as "Lustrous EF".
9) UNCIRCULATED(UNC): Uncirculated coins exhibit no wear at all, though small marks may be apparent as a result of contact with other coins at the mint and during transportation/packaging. These small marks are referred to as "bag marks" (BM). Coins which retain 100% of their original detail but show evidence of handling or minimal wear can be referred to as "AU" (about/almost uncirculated).
10) BRILLIANT UNCIRCULATED(BU): Uncirculated coins with full original mint lustre are referred to as "Brilliant Uncirculated". The golden £ 5, minted in 1988. A brilliant uncirculated coin should not show smudge marks even under a 30-point microscope, and is having proof-like characteristics. This one had a price tag of £525, and the bullion version released had a price of £325. So the buyers may have felt cheated as they bought this for more than double its cost in gold. The same coin released in 2008 has a price of euro 1390.
11) PROOF: This is the coin of the highest quality. It is minted under stringent quality norms and strict supervision. The metal for the coin is first carefully selected in which the selection % is barely 20%. Then it is struck at least twice with polished dies to produce an absolute mirror-like surface. You can easily see the reflection of the foreground in this 100 rupee coin.50% of this coin is silver. These Proof Coins also have an easily identifiable mint mark. This one had 'M' symbol on its reverse. Proof here is used as it is in waterproof and bulletproof, because this coin is proof of dust, smudge or bag marks and even the slightest wear and tear. Even its handling is done much more carefully as compared to an uncirculated coin and there is no chance of this coin getting wear and tear before reaching its intended recipient.
You can get to know about grading in a better way at my blog when you see the pictures of the different graded coins, and you can also see my collection here: http://kulraj-the-numismatist.blogspot.com/

What Are Krugerrand Gold Coins?
The majority of scholars believe the bithplace of coin usage was around 650BC in Lydia. The little kingdom of Lydia was in what is now modern day Turkey. Lydia's King Croesus is thought to be the instigator of coins. These first coins were made of a mixture of silver and gold known as electrum. Nearly all prototype coins had pictures of animals and gargoyles engraved upon their face. Collecting coins has been a financially rewarding pursuit for hundreds of years. Strangely enough, loads of serious bullion coin enthusiasts around the world ask: what exactly are South african gold krugerrands?
Gold krugerrands are one of the best selling gold coins in the world. Since they were released, South African Krugerrands have earned the admiration of coin investors, enthusiasts and collectors. In fact, they are one of the most successful gold coins ever. No coin set is full without a few South African gold Krugerrands in it.
The Krugerrand was first produced in 1967 in an attempt to encourage South Africans to purchase them as an investment. Many countries followed suit and the South African Gold Krugerrand became sought after. For the first 20 years of its existence, the South African Krugerrand dominated the gold coin market. It is still one of the most popular gold coins in the world.
South African gold Krugerrands can be easily be sold. The South African gold Krugerrand was the first gold bullion coin to be made of 22k gold, which was greater than any other coin manufactured up to then. The fact that it also contains an ounce of gold only adds to its allure.
There are an estimated 54 million gold Krugerrands in circulation. The coin is struck in four different weights - one troy ounce, half ounce, quarter troy ounce and the one-tenth ounce bullion coin. The one ounce coin is the most common. South African Krugerrands are one of the world's most trusted ways for numistatists to procure gold. They are usually listed daily in the business media.
Gold bullion coin investing needs a working knowledge of precious metals. Gold either holds or increases in value, even when the dollar tanks. Gold is a liquid asset which can be easily traded. This is one of the manyreasons why South African gold Krugerrands are so popular. Set in a display, or turned into pieces of jewelry, they are spectacular to behold. Many women love to wear a Krugerrand as a gold pendant.
The portability of South African Krugerranda is another of its most attractive advantages. Lots of numistatists have their South African gold Krugerrands made into attractive pieces of jewelry. If you want to invest in gold Krugerrand, search the world wide web. The value of a South African gold Krugerrand is not reliant on the global econimic health so if the stock market declines, the value of the South African Krugerrand should not drop. Yet another reason why the South African gold Krugerrand is such a reliable asset.

The explosive game of FarmVille is one that's here to stay. Once you get involved, you are hooked and there's no looking back. Building up your coins and XP points are very important if you are to level up quickly and expand your farm.
Face it people, we all want to have the best looking farm right? Well, then there's work to be done. Start off collecting those coins by plowing, planting and harvesting. Again I say, plow, plant and harvest. You have to start with the basics. Gain some coin and along with it will come the XP points. It's kind of like peanut butter and jelly.
Coins from harvesting, coins from helping your friends, and from your animals such as collecting eggs from the chickens or truffles from the pigs or from brushing the horses. There are so many ways to accumulate those much needed coins. Did I mention that you need to bring in the coins?
Once we have a nest egg then we can think about purchasing other goodies like, no not the decorations, although I know it is tempting, actually more land. Expanding your farm, you guessed it, depending on the size plot you buy, will double your income. Oh I like the sound of that, cha ching! Be prepared to spend some time on the basic farming duties because we don't want our crops to die. Be there when they are ready. I believe there's only about an hour or so window before you'll have very withered, dried out, unattractive, not in the living state, dead crops.
The XP points are experience points that you acquire basically every time you complete a task. As you climb the ladder in XP points you rise in levels an example of this would be at level 2 you would need 20 XP points at 3 you would need 40 at level 4 you would need 90 and so on and so fourth.
The decorations are abundant, you can get fences, hay bales, bird houses, lawnmowers, wagons and the list goes on and on. Everything to make your farm look authentic and a farm you can and will be proud of. You can even fly a flag of your choice: USA, UK, Canadian, Spanish and more.
For more information on Farmville the new exiting, spectacular Facebook game please visit: http://www.squidoo.com/farmvillecash2. Everyone wants to have the best farm out there, if you need some help you can go to: http://farmvilletips25.webs.com

Italy Placed in Group of Deaths at Euro 2008 Seedings
The next football event which will shake the European grounds is just around the corner. The Euro 2008 will be held on 7 June, 2008 in various cities of the countries of Switzerland and Austria.
The four group seedings for the event has recently taken place and it seems it will have an unpredictable edge as the groups are set in the following way: Pot One: Switzerland, Austria, Greece and Netherlands. Pot Two: Croatia, Italy, Czech Republic and Sweden. Pot Three: Romania, Germany, Portugal and Spain and Pot Four: Poland, France, Turkey and Russia.
UEFA draw for the 16-team tournament will be held Dec. 2 in Lucerne, Switzerland.
Over the years, the Azzurri have had tough time moving forward in the team eliminations as they continue to be placed in the so called “Group of Deaths”. Back in 1978 Italy had to play the host and eventual winners Argentina, France and Hungary. At the World Cup USA 1994, Italians had one the closest-fight battles as their group became the strongest in football history; Ireland, Mexico, Norway along with Italy scored almost the same amount of points. The Italians qualified only by a goal difference.
For the Euro 1996, Germany, Czech Republic and Russia were part of the group selection the Italians had to play, they were knocked out due to a head-to-head match against the Czechs.
And more recently, the scenario for the Euro 2008 points to a group in which the Azzurri could play Spain, Holland and France or perhaps even a set of un fancied teams including Poland, Romania, Sweden and Austria.
Regarding the well-known “Oranje” this team was knocked out of the last World Cup in the second round, and they did have to work hard in order to qualify for Euro 2008 in a very weak group. Holland possibly has the worst defence after Austria but it is their back-line which helps with names like: Wilfred Bouma, Andre Ooijer and Mario Melchiot. Holland, will be allowed to play all their games in the one location and have an advantage due to their Pot One position.
The above mentioned seedings have been arranged according to a coefficient shown during the matches won and lost and goals scored throughout the qualifying for the 2006 World Cup and Euro 2008.

Euro Millions Lotto
The Euro millions lotto was developed by the Francaise des Jeux in France and the Loterias y Apuestas des Estad in Spain and Camelot in the Uk and was launched on Saturday The 7th of february 2004. The inaugural draw was on on Friday The 13th of february 2004 in Paris. The Uk, France and Spain were participating initially, but lotteries from Austria, Belgium, the Republic of Ireland, Luxembourg, Portugal and Switzerland then signed up to the draw on the 8th of october 2004.
The Euromillions lotto, or the Euro loto as it is frequently known, gathers the stakes of all nine participating European nations presenting a mammoth Euro lotto prize. With the amount of nations joining the EU building, this will clearly lead to new countries participating in the Euro millions lotto. An increase in the amount of people playing the Euro lotto will lead to a continuing growth of the already huge Euromillions lottery prize.
The prize is rolled over each week until it is won giving rise to some substantial winnings. On 3rd february 2006, after rolling over 11 times, the Euro lotto jackpot of £125,194,303 was collected by three ticket holders (two in France and one in Portugal), making it Europe's biggest ever lotto prize.
How to play
Every participant chooses 5 main numbers which can be any number from 1 to 50 and 2 lucky star numbers which can be any number from 1 to 9. During the draw, 5 main and 2 lucky star numbers are then picked at random from two draw machines containing numbered balls. The device containing 50 balls is known as Stresa and the one containing the nine lucky star balls is named Paquerette.
Euro millions prize breakdown
The odds of picking up the Euro lottery top prize is a distant 1 in 76 million but the chances of winning any prize at all are a generous 1 in 24. 16 per cent of the prize pot is given to a "Booster Fund" which can be used to increase the prize pot. The numbers for the estimated prize are only a guide and the true amount alters according to the total in the prize fund and the number of winners for each prize. If the jackpot is not won, it rolls over until the following week. However, if the prize is not won on the twelfth successive week (i.e., eleven rollovers), then the jackpot prize is "rolled down" by distributing it between winners of the next level instead of rolling it forward again.
An exception to this rule would have been on 3 february 2006, which, if the jackpot had not been collected, the prize would have been rolled over for a thirteenth week.
New rules brought in on The 4th of january 2007 and became law on On the 9th of february 2007 restrict the number of consecutive draws to eleven, with the jackpot rolling down to lower prize levels in the eleventh draw if the prize is not won. The new rules also introduced "Event Draws" also referred to as "Superdraws", in which there will be a guarantee of the minimum amount which is available to pay prizes in the Match 5 and 2 Lucky Stars Prize Category; if an Event Draw isn't won it will be rolled down. The first Event Draw took place on february 9, 2007 for ¬100m (£66m, 165m sfr) to celebrate the Euromillions third birthday.
Notable euro millions wins
On On the 9th of february 2007, a Belgian gentleman collected the Euro millions lotto prize of ¬100 million ($132 million or £67.9 million) with a ticket purchased in a newspaper shop in Tienen. This is the largest lotto win in Belgium and the second-largest individual win in euromillions history.
By 17 november 2006, after rolling over 11 times, the European lottery prize reached ¬183 million ($241 million or £124 million pounds). No ticket matched all the winning numbers for the 12th draw, so the jackpot was split among the 20 tickets that matched 5 numbers and 1 lucky star number. Every such ticket was worth ¬9.6 million ($12.6 million). That is 5% of the jackpot plus the regular match 5 +1 prize. 7 of the 20 tickets were purchased in the United Kingdom, 4 in France, 3 each in Portugal and Spain, 2 in the Republic of Ireland, and 1 in Belgium.
On 31 march 2006, after rolling over 6 times, the European lotto prize of ¬75,753,123 ($100,175,909) was won by one Belgian gentleman, the second biggest win ever in Belgium, and the third-biggest prize won by an individual.
On the 3rd of february 2006, after rolling over 11 times, the Euromillions lotto prize of ¬180 million ($238 million) was collected by three ticket holders, two in France and one in Portugal. The three winners won ¬60 million ($79 million) every.
On 31 july 2005, after rolling over 9 times, the European lotto prize of ¬115 million ($152 million) was won on a ticket bought in Garryowen, Limerick, Ireland. The lucky ticket holder was Dolores McNamara, mother of six; she is still the biggest single winner in Euromillions history. She claimed the prize on the 4th of august at the Irish National loto's headquarters in Dublin.

How do you say euro amounts?
This may seem like a stupid questions, but I'm traveling to Europe in a few days and have not had any experience with any money other than Canadian and American dollars. I was just wondering how you say an amount of euros, for example, with Canadian dollars, $1.30 is 1 dollar and 30 cents (or "a dollar 30"), is it the same in europe? (ie. 1 euro and 30 cents). Thanks!
:0) It's not stupid - nice that you check rather than assuming, but yes, it's the same - 1 euro and 30 cents
(I have heard it referred to as "Euro cents" but that was not often and only just after 2002 with the switchover to the Euro when many people were getting used to it)
