Reich Nazi
Reich Nazi

Who benefited from the Nazi economy in the 1930s?
Between 1933 and 1938, the economy of Nazi Germany rapidly recovered from depression to full employment. But real wages during this period dropped by 25 percent. The question is: where did the wealth produced during the first five years of the Third Reich end up? Who benefited economically during this period?
Here is a tidbit: Prescott Bush, President Bush's grandfather, was fined for trading with the enemy, selling oil to the Nazi's.
Bush was not alone. Ford sold Nazi Germany cars, trucks and tanks, and other financial companies loaned them money. Most of the trade with Germany, however, was done prior to it being illegal.
It is important to point out that Germany alone among England, France and the US allowed cartellization agreements to be legal contracts, this allowed monopolies to flourish, and laid the groundwork for fascism and union busting.

Rare Grade
Rare Grade

The first question I ask people is why they want to invest in rare coins. Is it because they heard that rare coins appreciate at a sizable rate? Did they hear that rare coins have outperformed just about every market over the past 50 years? Is it that they want to hold hard assets as part of their investment portfolio?
Most people respond that they like what they have heard from large rare coin companies whom they have spoken with. They like knowing that these coins go up in value every year. They like the fact that there are limited quantities of the "rare coins". But too often, they are not aware that not all "rare" coins are rare. That is, just because someone says something is rare does not make it so.
Investing is rare coins can be profitable but you really must know what you are doing. Like any other profession, there are good service providers and bad ones. There are those that truly want to see you make prudent investments and then there are those that only want to line their own pockets. The way to avoid losing your shirt is to be proactive.
Being proactive means learning about rare coins. Would you just buy a stock that someone tells you is a good deal without knowing what the company produces or the service they provide? Probably not, so you must do the same due diligence when investing in rare coins.
First off, find out what makes a coin rare. Is it rare because so few were made or because of the fact that although millions were minted, few have survived? Is there a possibility that a hoard may be uncovered and the market flooded thus driving the value of you coin down dramatically?
You really must become a student of numismatics to make informed decisions or you will have to rely on the honesty and integrity of a professional dealer. If you rely on a dealer to make recommendations, find out what you can about the dealer. How long has he been in business? Does he own the company or is he just a salesman? Is the company too large? Will you merely be a number when you deal with them and not a person? What are the dealers credentials? What about his personal life? Does he seem to be honest?
For those of you who are willing to do your own homework, welcome to rare coin investing. To those of you with no interest in rare coins and merely want an alternative investment vehicle, buy gold, silver and platinum bullion until you have the knowledge to invest in rare coins. Rare coins are a long term investment and may not be liquid enough for your purposes. Bullion is liquid anywhere in the world, any time.
When investing in rare coins, find out what the different grading services mean. Some services have no credibility and must be avoided at all cost. These coins are often overgraded and worth a fraction of the asking price. What about population? Population is the number of coins that have been certified in a particular grade. Just because the population of a coin may be 2 or 3 does not necessarily make it rare. It may be that enough people have not submitted their coins to be certified but there are in fact, hundreds of these coins waiting in the wings.
Every dealer has an opinion about what coins to invest in. Some dealers specialize in only one type of coin, hence they are partial to selling and touting that type of coin. If you intend to specialize in the same type of coin, such a dealer may be perfect for you. If you have no interest in forming a "collection" and instead are looking at investment potential, do not invest in one particular type of coin only. If that series falls out of favor with collectors and investors, the values will drop.
In my years of designing numismatic portfolios for private clients, we have seen some coins come and go in popularity. However, some series are always popular. Similarly, when we design precious metals portfolios (bullion), we take into account the current and projected demand (and supply) of the metals we include in the portfolio and the percentage of each.
Investing in rare coins, and/or bullion, is not to be taken lightly. There is a lot of work involved with designing a well balanced portfolio. We work with high net worth individuals who are seasoned investors. We welcome their calls and questions. Nothing makes me happier than telling a client that his portfolio has risen 30% in the past year.
If you have been thinking about investing in rare coins or bullion, or if you are presently working with a dealer but are unhappy, feel free to contact me. I would be glad to answer your questions, and possibly work with you to achieve your goals.

Is it rare someone finishes first degree or masters with a grade of A or B in USA?
No, it's not rare. My university has roughly 17,000 students, and there were probably 500 that graduated with a 3.0 or higher. About 150 had a GPA of 3.7+. And this isn't out of the entire 17,000, just the 3,000 or so that actually graduated.

Iran Silver Coin

King Robert Mugabe has more expressions in his face and arms than a dog has wiggling his tail. The old coot, I kind of like, if only he could stop acting like Castro, and settle down, and take off that overly proud look of his. He is king, and will remain so until he dies, and like Castro, many a folk are waiting to celebrate that day (I am not, simply because he cannot rule me, if he could, I WOULD probably celebrate with those poor folks also), but why can't he have a little mercy for his own race, the Zimbabweans, hard to figure out the old man. Unfortunately, when we get old we forget those suffering around us, Castro has, the North Korean leader has, and so many other leaders have, so to condemn him, we must condemn many others, and some would prefer to name President Bush, who is bankrupting America, among that group. No, Mugabe is not alone in this world of shameless robbery of his own kind, his own people, he has company galore. We could even go to Saudi Arabia, or Iran, or Jordan even to Cambodia for kingship, or Yangon (old, Rangoon), to name a few shameless countries that could keep Mugabe company.
Mugabe's birthday is coming up, and I'd like to attend it, but I don't have the time, he will be 83-years old. He's now ruled Zimbabwe for some 27-years; he must have gotten his leadership criteria from Castro (he has survived everything)--Castro being his old friend of course. How long will he last, I'm sure a few more years, and then hand his kingship to one of his loyal followers, and a new regime will be born, unless... the country rises up and a revolt starts, or everyone leaves the country and there will only be animals to rule over, sad to say, but true, more pain is in store for that country whom ever decides to stay, animal or human, but the old saying is very true: you deserve the king you allow to rule you, and his government. So why complain.
See Dennis' web site: http://dennissiluk.tripod.com
Does anyone know the country this COIN is from? (photo included)?
I was geocaching with a friend and found an unusual two-tone coin in metals the color of gold and silver. On one side is the portrait of a man with glasses. On the other side is a group of buildings with pointed tops. Minarets, perhaps? Neither my friend nor I recognized the writing, the buildings OR the man.
The writing resembles Aramaic, the language of the Assyrians. I know a bit about this because my chiropractor is Assyrian. (They're a people without a country, because there hasn't been an Assyrian Empire in thousands of years! My chiro & his family lived in Iran before coming here, but they are not Iranian. They are not Muslim either, but Christian.)
Aramaic looks sort of like Hebrew, but more fluid and script-like. However, as far as I know, Aramaic is not used on the coins of any current country. Below is a scan I made of one side of the coin. Anyone recognize it?
http://www.oakmeade.com/mysterycoin.JPG
.
Thailand or that area is my guess....Minarets have a bulb like structure at the top most of the time
Have fun trying to find out, interesting tho, asked my wife to look at it(sense she is a retired flight attendant after 37 yrs)
she thinks the same thing I did.

Meanings Behind The Most Popular Tattoos
Throughout history symbolism has play an important part in how we communicate with each other. In the beginning it was a form of speech, a way to record history or even used to ward off evil spirits or to bring luck. Nowadays we each have our own symbols that have deep meanings to us and those around us, and one way to display our symbols is to have them etched on our bodies.
Some symbols in tattoos are more popular than others, for various reasons. Most of the time a symbol is popular because has many different meanings, instead of just a few. This allows all types of people to adopt the symbol and associate with it their own meaning. Other symbols are popular because they are associated with a certain social group, or they mark an important event.
When you are choosing a tattoo symbol, it is important that you fully understand its various meanings in case one of them is unwanted. For example, what if you really liked the symbol of two stylized lightning bolts, but then found out that it was associated with the German Nazi SS troops and biker gangs? You may want to reconsider this symbol.
Significant research is recommended before you decide on your tattoo symbol to ensure that it puts across the right meaning. Luckily the Internet is a great research tool, and you will be able to find thousands of symbols and their meanings.
Below is an example of some of the most popular types of tattoo symbols.
Religious Symbols
There are thousands of religious symbols out there, so if you practice a certain faith, or just want a tattoo that projects a particular feeling then you should have no problem finding a symbol that communicates how you feel. If you are choosing a symbol outside of your faith you will want to research its meaning fully before you go ahead.
Examples of religious symbols include: crosses (there are hundreds of different types), Virgin Mary and Baby Jesus, Star of David, angels, Buddha, Hindu gods (Vishnu, Shiva, Brahma), Wiccan or Pagan symbols, etc.
Cemetery Symbols
Usually any symbol that is associated with death is to remind one of a loved one that was lost, and commemorates their memory. There are many symbols though that can also represent rebirth and change.
Examples of cemetery symbols include: angels, Acanthus leaf, ankh, Celtic cross, dove, Laurel leaves, grapes, Ivy, Lily, obelisk, rose, urn, wreath, tombstones, bible, grim reaper, skull and crossed bones, star, moon, lamb, hands in prayer, etc.
Astrological / Zodiac Symbols
There are many people out there who believe that the alignment of the moon, planets and stars have a bearing on our fate and personality, which is why these symbols are so popular. Some choose to have another person’s astrological or zodiac symbol tattooed on them to show that they are forever linked with each other.
The twelve classic Astrological signs are: Capricorn, Aquarius, Pisces, Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, and Sagittarius.
The twelve Chinese Zodiac signs are: Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Sheep, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, and Pig
There are many other kinds of symbols that can have a significant meaning to a person, such as certain planets, the sun or moon.
Flower Symbols
Nearly every flower on earth has its own symbolism. Usually the meaning arose from that particular flower’s association in a fable, myth, or its adaptation by a monarch or ruler. Each flower can have ten different meanings, and the meanings can change depending on what color the flower is. Here are a few examples of popular flower tattoos and their meanings:

Ancient Symbols
Tattooing would have never begun if ancient people’s hadn’t decided that certain symbols guarded against evil and brought good luck. They thought to permanently mark their skin with these symbols to ensure that they were always safe and protected. Thus these ancient symbols have preserved over thousands of years and are still popular.
Egyptian hieroglyphs are exotic, interesting and bring a touch of history to your tattoo. Many symbols that you see today have evolved from Egyptian hieroglyphs, and many others still exist in their original form.
Those who are from Irish or Scottish descent usually prefer Celtic symbols to illustrate their affinity for their homeland. Fortunately, the Celts designed and perfect many beautiful symbols that are perfect for tattoo design, including the Celtic knot and Celtic cross.
Likewise, those from African ancestry may like to research the many Adinkra or West African symbols that have evolved. These simplistic designs illustrate the beauty of the country and help the wearer to stay in touch with their roots. The same applies to Native Americans and their descendants, who have a host of beautiful and rich symbols to choose from, including many powerful animal totems that can provide guidance and protection.
There are many symbols that evolved because of the wearer’s job, instead of their country of origin. No wear is this truer than with sailors, who over time have developed a ‘code’ of tattoo language with their various symbols which include anchors, mermaids, nautical stars and compasses.
Finally, many who want to pay homage to their ancestors are doing research on their clan’s coat of arms. Many historical databases provide pictures and histories for just about any family name as well as any symbols they may have used.
Pride Symbols
There used to be a time where being gay, lesbian, bisexual, transsexual or having some kind of fixation wasn’t something to celebrate, but in today’s accepting society there is nothing preventing you from displaying pride in your sexual orientation.
Most of us are familiar with the rainbow or rainbow flag symbol, but do you know what it stands for? There are six colors on the flag and each of them has their own meaning: red for life, orange for healing, yellow for sun, green for nature, blue for harmony and purple for spirit.
Other pride symbols include the pink or black triangle, Labrys (double-bladed ax), Leather Pride Flag, Lamda, Bear Pride Flag, Bear Brotherhood Flag, Purple Rhino, freedom rings, Bisexual Pride Flag, Transgender symbol, Bisexual Symbol, red ribbon, etc.
Chinese / Kanji Characters
There are thousands of Chinese and Kanji characters that have their own specific meaning such as luck, happiness, abundance, wealth, fertility and so on. Not only are these signs beautiful to the eye, they convey a meaning to the wearer.
Symbols of Hate
As much as we would like to believe that tattoos are meant to send positive messages, sometimes groups adopt a symbol to mean the opposite. It is important to ensure that the symbol you choose does not associate you with a group or sect like the KKK, neo-nazis or prison gangs. Most of know the obvious signs such as swastikas but there are other symbols that you may not know of that have negative connotations.
Whatever symbol you choose, it is going to be with you forever, so choose carefully and make sure you are 100% comfortable with your choice before you proceed.

Where can I get a great German Mauser Kar 98k?
I need a Kar 98k that is in good condition at least, the swastika needs to be visible, and is under $800 USD.
I am currently going through the guns of a gentleman that recently passed away. His wife doesn't have any use for the collection.
One of the guns is a Mauser K98. Very good condition. I'd have to check for a swastika (?) and let you know if there is one. Does have a number of proof marks and is chambered in 8mm.

Germany's most well known touristic route is the 355km long Romantic Road which connects walled towns and picturesque villages. Outside Germany this road is best known in Japan (93% of Japanese capable of traveling have heard of it), Italy and the US.
The road follows the course of the Roman highway Via Augustus and was also a medieval trade route that connected some of the towns along the Romantic Road. It leads from Wuerzburg in North Bavaria along a number of medieval villages right down to Schwangau with one of Germany's leading attractions: the magnificent fairytale castle Neuschwanstein in the Bavarian Alps, King Ludwig's masterpiece and Walt Disney's inspiration.
Highlights along the way are the best preserved medieval town Rothenburg ob der Tauber with its timber-framed houses and the entertaining night watchman tour (English tour at 8pm every night), the wine, cathedral and Baroque city of Wuerzburg with its Residenz palace. This palace served as the home for Wuerzburg's powerful prince-bishops during the Enlightenment and is known for its extravagant artistic design and Baroque architecture. Then you will discover one of Germany's oldest cities Augsburg where you'll encounter the legacy of the Romans and the wealthy traders like the Fugger family. Its historic city centre with its baroque town houses, splendid boulevards, and traditional restaurants, invites you to enjoy a genuine medieval candlelight dinner in old vaulted rooms. At the very end of the romantic route lies medieval Fuessen with its charming historic town centre and narrow streets.
In addition to numerous castles, the Fuessen - Schwangau region offers spectacular mountain views and a host of outdoor activities like skiing, mountain hiking and sailing as well as great accommodation. After traveling from village to village the Schwangau region invites you to spend at least 1 week to truly enjoy the variety of leisure opportunities from indulging wellness islands to culinary highlights, hiking to points of exceptional natural beauty, cycling around the clear lakes with panoramic views of the Alps as your backdrop or simply enjoying the view from one of the many mountain hut sun terraces. Even opportunities for adrenalin seekers abound (e.g. rock climbing, high rope course climbing, paragliding tandem jumps or 3-day quick trainings to jump yourself).
The very name of the Romantic Road expresses the feeling that many visitors have when they first set their eyes on this special mix of history, cultural riches and natural beauty along the way. Sometimes one feels like being taken back in time - a wonderfully peaceful feeling. Perfect for your holiday!
Silke Rehman loves the South Bavarian region and after 12 years of moving from London, to Geneva back to London and Dubai, she has settled in Schwangau by Neuschwanstein Castle, the gorgeous place where she used to come for holidays. She is a co-active life coach specializing in helping powerful women, who dream of making a real difference in this world. She coaches because she loves seeing her clients grow and achieve things they did not think were possible. Silke shares her thoughts and expertise with the world at www.developandgrow.com
Why Did The Germans Declare Florance, Athens, and Chieti Open Cities in WWII?
The Nazis don't the type that would care about civilians in Italy and Greece from getting killed or to protect historic buildings. But is that why they did it?
The answer is a bit different not the Nazis but the people from these cities declared it :
"Open City" .
In war, in the event of the imminent capture of a city, the government/military structure of the nation that controls the city will sometimes declare it an open city, thus announcing that they have abandoned all defensive efforts. The attacking armies of the opposing military will then be expected not to bomb or otherwise attack the city, but simply to march in. The concept aims at protecting the historic landmarks and civilians who dwell in the city from an unnecessary battle.
Some examples of declarations of an open city include:
Brussels in 1940, World War II
Paris in 1940, from which the French Government fled after it became apparent that they could not defend it
Manila in 1942, which the American military abandoned because the city had lost strategic value in light of events
Athens on 1944-10-11 was declared an open city by the Germans[1]
Rome on 1943-08-14, which the defending forces declared unilaterally an "open city"; the Allied forces entered Rome in June 1944; the German forces also declared Florence and Chieti "open cities"
Attacking forces do not always respect the declaration of an "open city." This happened, for example, with the German bombardment of Belgrade in April 1941, and the American bombardment of Rome in 1944.
